Corporate social responsibility

At TELUS International, our commitment to corporate social responsibility is an important priority. It is also a fundamental part of our culture, which strives to make our brand live up to the promise - the future is friendly - in the hearts and minds of our customers, team members, community partners and shareholders.

We believe that to be a premier corporate citizen, we must provide exceptional value to our customers and do "good" in the communities in which we work, live and serve. We also believe that maintaining our strong focus on corporate social responsibility, particularly during these current challenging economic times, will differentiate us amongst our peers, present compelling business opportunities and contribute to our long-term success.

Our community investment approach focuses on three main pillars:

Creating healthy communities by providing donations to local grassroots programs;
Supporting charitable causes that relate to our core business; and
Engaging our team members to give back to their local communities

In support of our philosophy to give where we live, our parent company, TELUS Corporation, along with our Canadian team members and retirees, have contributed $158 million to charitable and not-for-profit organizations and volunteered more than 3 million hours of service to local communities since 2000. Nine TELUS Community Boards across Canada lead TELUS' local philanthropic initiatives. TELUS was honored to be named the most outstanding philanthropic corporation globally for 2010 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, becoming the first Canadian company ever to receive this prestigious international recognition.

The Philippines

The TELUS Day of Service continues to expand globally. In the Philippines, the third annual TELUS Day of Service took place on September 13, 2009 where team members took one special day to give where they live. Team members built houses for the homeless, planted trees, and treated underprivileged children to a day of fun. Partnering with Gawad Kalinga (GK), TELUS International continues to hand over homes to deserving families in Manila. TELUS team members are nearing the completion of the planned 71 homes as well as a three-level multi-purpose hall that will open later this year as part of the TELUS GK Village.

The 2009 TELUS Day of Service marked the company's largest community event to date with a record number of TELUS team members dedicating the entire day towards nation building and community service. Since 2007, more than 2,700 TELUS International Philippines employees have volunteered in excess of 17,000 hours of service. This year, the TELUS Day of Service in the Philippines is planned for October 2, 2010.

Latin America

TELUS Day of Service events also took place at TELUS International locations throughout Latin America. In September 2009, over 1,400 volunteers came together to construct and equip three school classrooms in Guatemala serving 160 families as well as renovate an entire education center in El Salvador benefiting 1,200 children. The next annual TELUS Day of Service is planned for October 2010.
