The Philippines

The TELUS Day of Giving continues to expand globally. In the Philippines, the sixth annual TELUS Day of Giving took place December 8, 2012, where over 2,000 team members embraced the TELUS philosophy to 'give where we live'. A total of four TELUS Day of Giving activities included refurbishing a school, building homes for the homeless, planting trees, and treating underprivileged children to a day of fun. Partnering with Gawad Kalinga (GK), TELUS International continues to build homes for deserving families in Manila. As part of the TELUS GK Village, TELUS team members are building 71 homes and a three-story multi-purpose hall in the first village and have started to build a second TELUS GK Village with another 125 homes.

Since 2007, TELUS International team members have volunteered more than 36,000 hours in Filipino communities, dedicating their time towards nation building and community service.

Central America

For the fourth year in a row, TELUS Day of Giving events hosted by TELUS International in three locations across Central America brought team members together to demonstrate our passion for spirited volunteerism.

The first Day of Giving in Guatemala City, held in 2009, began with a team of 500 volunteers. On October 27, 2012, nearly five times that number - 2,300 energized team members - rolled up their sleeves to take on the challenge of building nine classrooms benefitting 1,100 local students. In Xela, 400 volunteers gathered on October 28 to give their time and help build two classrooms to benefit 200 children at a local school. And on November 10 in San Salvador, 1,200 team members joined forces to benefit more than 1,000 local children, their families and the community by refurnishing a school.

TELUS Community Boards are an innovative and groundbreaking effort that puts decision-making in the hands of local leaders who know their communities best. This approach helps make our financial support accessible to the grassroots organizations that make such a tremendous difference in building stronger communities.

Three TELUS International Community Boards are making a positive impact in the Philippines, Guatemala and El Salvador, each with a $100,000 annual donation budget. Eleven TELUS Community Boards are making a positive impact across Canada from coast-to-coast.

Since their inception in 2005, the Community Boards have contributed over $30 million to grassroots charitable organizations and supported more than 2,300 community projects.
